Asteroids: I've Played It and It Stinks

I felt a little bad about pre-judging the new Live Arcade port of asteroidslinks earlier this week so I decided to download the demo and give shooting space rocks The Old College Try. I can now say, without guilt, that Asteroids is not just bad, it's probably the worst port of the game I've ever played.

Is it just my imagination or is there not supposed to be an entire button just for moving the ship? Shouldn't "up" do the trick? Even worse is the "Evolved" mode with shiny, distracting graphics that make it way too easy to lose track of the asteroids in an explosion or, even worse, the background.
