One of my favorite games of all time is a top down shooter called UN Squadron. It was originally an arcade game known as Area 88 that got ported to the SNES. It was brilliantly simple, but at the same time masterfully deep.
Whenever a new shooter comes out I start to get excited. I bought Ikaruga a while back, hoping it would be similar to UN Squadron, but it didn't really cut it.
This new game for the Xbox 360 called Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is a WWII airplane shooter. It's style after Crimson Skies, which was a fairly successful game on the original Xbox.
Personally, I didn't think it was very good, but hey – everybody is entitled to their own opinion. The point is, I'm looking forward to this game even though I don't really know much about it.
It's kind of strange how this game totally came out of nowhere, all of a sudden it's just gold – but with games like Oblivion on the horizon, it's kind of hard for a game of Blazing Angels stature to get any hype at all.
