You might have noticed a new Dashboard update was available last time you logged into Xbox Live. What awesome new features did Microsoft jam-pack into this latest upgrade? Well, first, there's support for the new Scene It "Big Button Pad" controller. There's also…no, uh, that's it:
the only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the Big Button Pad that is being released this holiday. Why do we need to release this update now? Simple: The certification team needs time to test the new controller against the retail hardware/software combination before it hits stores.
You'd think that Microsoft would have a way to simulate an updated retail Xbox without forcing every 360 owner in the world to update their software…but hey, this is Microsoft we're talking about. You can now sleep easy knowing that someday, if a relative accidentally buys you that Scene It game with its Big Dumb Controller, your Xbox is prepared for the ten to twenty minutes you will spend playing it before putting it on eBay.
