Xbox Live is scheduling a weekend that would make Mel Gibson proud.

On the weekend of April 1st, you can expect to see a lot more gamers on live, as Microsoft is planning a 72 hour free event for all Xbox owners. Microsoft hopes that a 72 hours on live is all gamers will need to decide they want to throw down the $50 and get a yearly membership.

I think it's a great idea, I mean no question the 72 hours are going to be insane, and I hope Microsoft is ready for the challenge, but after that I'm sure there will be a lot of new members on Xbox Live.

In all honesty, I couldn't really imagine not having a gold membership to Xbox Live. It would totally suck, it's missing half of what the Xbox has to offer. Given, you still get to download demos and movie trailers, but big deal; if you can't frag your friends in Perfect Dark, what's the point of even playing!?

Although this is scheduled for April 1st, don't think it's a joke.
