RedOctane recently released the first batch of downloadable content for Guitar Hero 2 and it's not looking good: songs are only available in packs of three and each pack runs 500 MS Points ($6.25).
Wow. Really? I just don't get what they're thinking here -- $6.25 is more than two bucks a song, and I have to buy a three song bundle even if I just want one song? This is just bad business, guys.
What should they have done differently? It's not that complex, really:
- Sell songs individually - This is obvious.
- Charge $1 per song - I can buy a single on iTunes for $.99. For that dollar I can listen to that song as many times as I want, in many different places. Buying a song to play in Guitar Hero gives me less things to do with that song (i.e. just play the song in Guitar Hero.) Why would I pay more for less?
