
In a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Microsoft's Chris Satchell said that over 50% of the 10.4 million 360 owners did not own an original model Xbox:
"We've sold 10.4 million, but the stat you may not have heard is that over half of those sales are from people that didn't own an Xbox 1. So there're lots of new people coming in, which kind of surprises you. What we're actually finding is that our customer set is broadening, which we think is important."
This doesn't surprise me, much — I'm in the 50% that never owned an Xbox. Last generation I think the Xbox didn't have much to offer against the PS2 and the GCN: the games were (mostly) uninspiring, the 'box itself was gigantic, and the graphics weren't that impressive. It's these Growing Pains, however, that led to vastly improved Xbox 360. So while I never took the plunge myself, I'm glad that others did.
