Ex-Guitar Hero developer Harmonix (recently acquired by MTV) have announced their latest foray into rhythm gaming: Rock Band. Not content with just shredding on the guitar, Rock Band will also let you play drums, bass, and even (oh no) vocals.

There's some potential here, sure -- but is Harmonix + MTV a match made in heaven or a deal with the devil? I'm excited about the idea behind Rock Band as much as anyone else, but can you name a company better at taking rock and roll and destroying it than MTV? We'll get to see how it shakes out soon enough -- Rock Band is scheduled to hit the Xbox 360 this December.
