Game Developers Conference.
Unless you've been living under a rock or something you've heard of it...or unless you're deaf
- in which case you haven't heard of it either. Sorry, that was wrong.Anyway, I'd like to offer a my own special little GDC preview. You know, just general stuff what I'd like to see from each company at the show and that sort of thing, so let's jump right into it.
Sony:
Finalized Controller - The boomerang has gotta be a joke, right? There have been numerous rumors about it, but I'd like to see Sony come out and officially show off the controller. Boomerang or not, the controller is important.
Detailed Online Information- Is there going to be an official service or what? They talked about downloadable PS1 and PS2 games on the 15th, let's hear some more. Will there be a gold and silver service like Xbox Live?
Gameplay videos- It doesn't need to be playable at GDC, we can wait for E3 for that, but let's see some real footage of the system in action. No prerendered crap like E3 last year.
Nintendo:
Information, please! - Nintendo has been insanely tight lipped about the console, if we don't get some screenshots or gameplay videos, at least give us some specs on the system.
NiWiFi - Let's get some more information regarding the virtual console and the wi-fi connection. I don't think we'll hear any prices or too much information but maybe we could get a list of developers that pledge their games to the Revolution's back library.
Shell Controller - The shell controller is perhaps the most important part of the Revolution - it's the bridge between the normal consoles like PS3 and 360 and the Revolution. I don't expect anybody will be able to play it at GDC, but at least show it off.
Microsoft
360 Camera - Full details about the camera. Whens it coming out, what can it do...everything.
HD DVD - Microsoft needs to compete with Sony in the next-generation optical disc category. Microsoft will announce something regarding an external HD-DVD player. Unfortunately, (in my opinion) this will leave a lot of Xbox fanboys upset. ...trust me.
Marketplace Enhancements - I'm not sure what they will do, but Microsoft will try to enhance the marketplace by adding some new features or services. This is one department that Microsoft has a huge advantage over the competition, so they're going to try to exploit it.
Stock - Microsoft is going to announce that the shortage is over, starting in April, everybody, everywhere will be able to get the 360 they've been wanting for so long.
GDC is March 20-24 in San Jose, California.
Xbox Space will keep you posted on the latest news.
