Everybody has a different opinion about the next generation console race; I'm going to give you mine. I'm going to keep this short and sweet- believe me, I could go on for pages about what I think is going to happen and why, so without further ado here are my predictions.
The nintendo Revolution will sell the most consoles, followed by the PS3 and coming is last place will be the Xbox 360. I'm going to start with the bottom and go up. The Xbox 360 has an enormous advantage over the other consoles because it launched first, well I think Microsoft has botched the advantage for a number of reasons. First, despite being sold out, it was a weak launch, followed by a period where no games are being released. Second, they did not launch with a killer app, and there will not be a killer app for the 360 until the other consoles arrive. Graphically, the PS3 will be superior to the 360 and with new technologies coming out so quickly, Microsoft will actually damage themselves by launching a console that is so focused on HD quality textures so early. If the PS3 launches with a decent price, it will out sell the 360.
When I said that the Nintendo Revolution will finish first, you probably said "what?" Well, let me explain exactly why it will sell the most units. To begin, the Revolution will have a substantially smaller price tag than its competitors. Sony and Microsoft are both selling very expensive consoles; you really need to save up in order to afford them. The Nintendo Revolution is designed to be affordable for everybody. The premise behind the Revolution is that gaming can be for everybody, and Nintendo's backwards compatibility is making that possible with over 20 years of games available for download through the Nintendo WiFi connection. Iwata-san, the head of Nintendo has said that they are comfortable with the Revolution being owned in conjunction with a PS3 or 360. I think that people will either own a PS3 and Revolution, or an Xbox 360 and a Revolution. Lastly, and most importantly, the Revolution's controller literally is reinventing gaming, I think that gamers who have been around for a while are sick of the same recycled games over and over, the freehand controller will put a new spin on gaming and make it fun for everybody.
That's what I think. No news here, just felt like I should give my opinion about the next generation console wars. I'm probably wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if I were right, what do you think?
