Red Dead Redemption: Online

Posted in Reviews on 16.06.10

We got our hands on a copy of Red Dead Redemption, and got stuck straight in to the aspect of the spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver that most excited us – online multiplayer. We were excited by the prospect of getting online with this game as Revolver was hugely enjoyable, although we knew to expect something different altogether on the latest generation of consoles.

We were pleasantly surprised by the ambition evident in the development team. We had heard that online multiplayer in the game was going to be open plan, allowing for a non-linear free roam in which you could join posses. Excitement abounds when you come across another posse of online players, and in only a few days of owning the game some of our most memorable online moments have been created roaming the desert, just searching for trouble.

Fans of Red Dead Revolver's Mexican Standoff multiplayer will not be disappointed either. Shootout mode begins with such a standoff and allows survivors to use the whole battlefield to their advantage. This side of the game alone makes it worth coming back to many times, but come back later for our own thoughts on Red Dead Redemption's story mode!
