40 percent of video game players are women according to a new survey released today by the video game industry's trade group, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Additional findings in the ESA's annual survey of consumer demographics and usage behaviors indicate that the average age of video game players has risen to 35.

According to a survey released by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, more than half (53%) of all American adults play video games of some kind, whether on a personal computer, on a gaming console, on a cell phone or other handheld device, or online.

"This new data underscores the fundamental principle that computer and video games are a mainstream entertainment form, which captures the imagination of every segment of our society," said Gallagher, CEO of the U.S. association representing computer and video game publishers.

Change In Xbox Indie Games Ratings From Microsoft

Posted in Xbox on 07.05.11

Microsoft has changed the ratings system of the Xbox Live Indie Games service due to complaints and criticism that the system was just introduced to boost ratings. Now, only the Gold Xbox Live membership owners can rate the games. In the official XNA Game Studio team blog, the firm said that users will experience more consistent ratings and chances of abuse in the Xbox catalogue will reduce.

Microsoft is planning to ban the users from Xbox Live who have violated the user agreement and they will lose the ability to post games in future using Xbox service. The company had to take the respective step when there was a complaint that the video game developers had asked all fans on Facebook page to give the game extremely high ratings on XBLIG top rated chart.
